The primary aim of ecopa is to promote “the three Rs”
(Replacement, Reduction and Refinement) in the use of animals
in research, testing, education and training in Europe.
We PROMOTE:
REPLACEMENT
methods or strategies which avoid or replace the use of animals in research or for educational purposes.
REDUCTION
use of methods that enable researchers to obtain comparable levels of information from fewer animals, or to obtain more information from the same number of animals.
REFINEMENT
use of methods that alleviate or minimize potential pain, suffering or distress, and enhance animal welfare for the animals used for scientific purposes.
ecopa strives for consensus between all four stakeholders
in attempting to achieve its goals:

Academia
Industry
Animal protection and welfare organisations
SUPPORT
ecopa supports the establishment of National Consensus Platforms which promote the three Rs and include representatives of all four stakeholders in their governing body.
